Let’s start with a simple explanation of the blog name. To break it down, and athlete can be defined as the following:

  1. The noun athlete comes from the greek word athletes, meaning “contestant in the games”.
  2. A person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.

A RANDOM ATHLETE can be defined as the following (based on the dictionary of yours truly):

  1. a person who dabbles in various athletic endeavours without ever really mastering any single one.
  2. one who participates in various unusual and head-scratching fitness bets, with the next one typically unrelated to the last.

I guess this is the part where I introduce myself and tell you what this whole blog thing is all about. I am a twenty-something Canadian guy who loves hockey, more specifically the Ottawa Senators (I know, depressing right now), a variety of other sports, and occasionally working out. And by working out, I mean making interesting fitness bets with my friends and family all of the time. I use this blog as a creative outlet to document the various fitness bets and challenges I make with others and myself, such as my quest for a one arm chin up or what it’s like to run 5km backwards. I love testing out new fitness/health trends and sharing my experience during/after the process. Hope you enjoy!
